Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in Ukraine and moved to Moscow, Russia when I was 8 years old. I live in New York.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Our apartment on the outskirts of Moscow was wallpapered with books. I started reading when I was about 11 years old, all these great adventure novels, Walter Scott, Fenimore Cooper, Jules Vernes, Alexander Dumas, etc. Wanted to be a writer ever since then.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love Dumas, Bulgakov, Nabokov. Among recent books enjoyed The Silent Patient, Girl on the Train,
Tell us a little about your latest book?
If you liked The Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, or the movie Amadeus, you might enjoy this novel. It's born out of my great love for Mozart. I always felt he died too young and wished I could go back in time and save him. I wouldn't have let him die penniless and be buried in a beggar's grave. The book is very emotional for me. Every time I think what great music he might've written had he lived just a little longer, I cry. It took me under a year to write and it came in one flow. I got into a trance, like Mozart. Almost no corrections or edits.
