Featured Interview With Author Vanessa Thurgood
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in Southeast Idaho on a potato farm. However, my job was to take care of our horses and I couldn't have asked for a better one. I got to ride whenever I wanted and allow my imagination to run away with me as we rode through the river bottoms near my home. After a few years in the Midwest after getting married, I've returned home to my roots and get to live out the dreams I had on the backs of those horses by writing my books.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I've always been fascinated by books. My mom bought me a reading lamp that clamped onto my bed so I could read late into the night. However, I didn't realize I wanted to become a writer until after I had kids and was frustrated by not being able to find a clean, yet exciting book to read.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I've really come to love reading books by Brandon Mull, Morgan L. Busse, Sara Wright, and C.F.E Black. I'm a big-time fantasy nerd, though I will cross genres on occasion for Sci-Fi, historical fantasy, and urban fantasy.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book, THE QUEEN OF THE NIGHT, is the third volume in The Comstock Chronicles. My main character, Nienna Comstock, gets a real shock when rogue magic pulls her back in time and lands her in the clutches of the most notorious dragon in Tellidine history.
This book took me a year to write because I had two very strong and diverging plot lines that I had to bring together into one main story. Needless to say it was a bit of a beast.
