Featured Interview With Author SD Schue
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in the beautiful Arizona desert south of Phoenix and have never left. We raised our children here and love the mountains and cactus. We've had a variety of pets over the years but all that remains now is our heeler mix dog named Dave. He loves grand adventures, especially hiking and running.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Reading has been part of my life since I learned how. I spent tons of time as a child with my nose either stuck in a book, or in spinning fantasy adventures, pretending to be some character in a book or movie. But my decision to bring these stories to life happened after losing a family member. Writing and journaling are cathartic and as I began writing I started to weave aspects of fantasy into my thoughts, wondering, "what if" and things escalated from there. The idea to make the story into a series took root. I published my debut novel in April 2023 but republished it again the following year with a new cover. Book two came out in June and the third publishes in August 2024.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
This is such a difficult question for me because I read a little bit of everything. If I get started with listing authors I'll run out of space. My all time favorite books are the Lord of the Rings series. But I also go through phases where I read wildly out of the fantasy genre. I went through a murder mystery phase, political espionage, romance, suspense, etc. About the only genre I don't read is horror. I also tend to DNF books where violence against children is portrayed.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is the conclusion to the Chosen Defender Series and brings the story to a close. Sophie has learned to use her powers, has bonded with her team, and now must face the evil Malum and Demon army to discover why her parents and all the others like them disappeared. Time is ticking, and she's got to overcome some huge obstacles in order to succeed. (Not to mention deal with the school bullies and finish high school).
