Featured Interview With Author Rusty Blackwood
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
These questions are often asked but I will try to answer as best I can without sounding redundant. I was born in St. Thomas, Ontario, and grew up on my paternal grandfather's farm located on the end of the East Routh Road in Southwold Township, Elgin County, on the east side of the Thames River. The Muncey Indian Reservation is on the westside of the river. The secluded neighbourhood, dubbed Muskoka, was a farming community, and a wonderful place to grow up. In 1985 I moved to Niagara just outside Beamsville — known as Lincoln — and in 1987 I moved to St. Catharines where I presently reside.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I always enjoyed books, especially those centering on animals, particularly horses, but I also love a good mystery, even horror, comedy, and I simply adore an expressive beautiful love story. These genres, with the exception of horror, are the genres I write. I also include poetry among my loves. I'm fortunate to have been blessed with what some might describe as a wild imagination, and I would agree that my imagination serves me well, and paired with my countless experiences throughout my life thus far, I combine them to create my stories. I have always found writing a very interesting outlet, and it was during my elementary school years that I discovered just how much I enjoyed it. I have always given credit to my late father James Beecroft, and my late elementary teacher Gladys Carroll for paying attention and encouraging me to shoot for the moon regarding my writing of fiction. When I realized how much I enjoyed writing, I took their encouragement to heart, and I've never been sorry that I did.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I enjoy expressive writing and any author than can deliver this whether they are world renown, or writers who simply create beautiful worlds through words for their own enjoyment. I find so many of the latter are sorely overlooked, and I truly hope that will change. The internet has opened a vast array of opportunities to be explored by newcomers, as opposed to strictly authors supported by the Big 5 Standard Publishing Houses. It is my hope that readers continue to give unknown names a chance along with their support, and readership.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest available title, Return to Autumn Part 1, that was released on Amazon last November 2022, is the second novel in what has become the 'Autumn Series, or Trilogy', that began with my 2019, 5-star-multi-award- winning romantic fiction drama, The Perils of Autumn, which was followed by Return to Autumn Part 1, and will conclude in the upcoming, Return to Autumn Part 2, that is slated to release this month (April).
The Autumn story centers on a young Kentucky women, Autumn Leeves, born in 1946 to Abigail Leeves, an unwed mother who lost her fiance in an accident enroute to their wedding. By 1970 the grown Autumn has become a nurse, and following a brief stint at 2 Lexington hospitals, is sent on assignment to care for the terminally-ill wife of middle-aged English equestrian horse master, Cyril Landon, who owns Landon Lawns Stables, a Thoroughbred racing stable, located in a posh community outside Lexington known as The Meadows.
The stables' exclusive jockey, Duff Taylor, lives above the tack room in the main stable, and has a reputation for being difficult. He also has a dark secret he will go to any length to protect. When Autumn arrives to Landon Manor, she is immediately thrown into the fray.
This riveting, unforgettable story is told over the course of 3 novels.
