Featured Interview With Author Roxy Siren
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Just a small-town gal from the Garden State, who finally acted on the many suggestions to "write a book" one day. For twenty+ years I have absolutely experienced it all when it comes to dating. During those moments…dates…disasters, the comedy may have been overlooked, but it surely had to be revealed in some fashion. Although my pen name was procured for anonymity, I am proud of who I am — and thankful that this brutally honest, yet comedic memoir, has brought lessons and laughter to readers, being highly relatable to anyone in the dating world.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Most of my "reading" life was mainly for school, and my career. As evidenced by this memoir, I did a ton of experiencing – but probably should have chosen a book over a date in many cases! If and when I stop moving, to potentially enjoy a book, I'm more likely to be viewing the back of my eye lids…it's a disappointing fact.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I tend to love "real" life, true stories, personal experiences…whether they be joyous or disastrous, I like to be in their shoes. This is why depicting these personal dating experiences with great detail was so important to me. I wanted the reader to feel all that I felt, in the moment I felt it.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
"What Do Ya Mean You're Still Single" is a collection of unembellished dating experiences. Despite the twenty+ years of experiences tallied, putting this down on paper took roughly a week. And yes, I wrote it all out on college ruled, loose leaf paper…a black pen and a hot water in-hand. From the very start of my dating life, without knowing its importance, I comedically titled each man with a catchy name after our date, or in some cases after our multiple attempts at dates. And still, these men find themselves in my contacts under their same procured names, which makes me chuckle. If they only knew! These calamities were a mixed bag of online meetings, blind dates, and friend set ups. But for each one, I've learned lessons about the dating process, and more importantly about myself. My title was designed in accordance with that "self" lesson — Why AM I still single? What's wrong with me? What's right with me? It's a question people have asked me my entire adult life. As much as the answer may have concerned me in the past, it no longer does, in fact being single is proudly justified by this hilarious dating memoir. Can you relate?
