Featured Interview With Author Peter Raposo
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in London to Portuguese parents. My parents moved back to Portugal when I was 2-years old, but in 1991 I finally returned to London where I lived for 8 years before returning to Portugal. After a few years living in Portugal, I decided to return to London again and remain in my country of birth to purchase my writing ambitions. In 2005 I was back in England again, living in London, and I started to work on my writing. In 2008 I moved to Coventry, where I'm still living, and in 2021, after a painful divorce and a bad case of depression, I managed to get my first novel "dUst" published. That was quickly followed by another novel, "the illusion of movement", which I wrote during lockdown, and I have been writing ever since and have published 12 books since then. At the moment I live alone, and I'm still trying to find a place for myself in this world.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was 6-years old when I realized I wanted to become a writer. I read a lot of Dumas, Verne, and Wells back then. I also wrote my first story aged 6, and that was followed by lots of short-stories, but I took a break from writing for a long time because I wanted to live and gain life experience.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I like Kenzaburo Oe, Ma Jian, J. K Huysmans, Philip Roth, Roberto Bolano, Nicole Krauss, and so many others, and I like to read all sorts of literature, no matter the genre. Events in my life and people around me are some of my inspirations, and some times ideas just come into my head and I write about it.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is called "those who lie will fade and die", and it's the follow-up to my books "the illusion of movement" and "cast away your dreams of darkness". The three books tell the story of author M÷. Set at the start of 2023, "those who lie will fade and die" finds science-fiction author M÷ trying to move on with his life after his latest breakup. Easier said than done. On his journey towards a new life, he’s told about an ancient race of snake-like people who have lived among us since the beginning of time and he even meets a time traveller. And as if that wasn’t enough, Donald Trump is making a comeback and Steven Seagal is teaching martial arts to troops in Russia.
Maybe Musk is right and we’re living in a computer simulation, forever bound to repeat the mistakes of the past.
