Featured Interview With Author Pam Stevens
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up on a small farm / ranch in Southern California, we never had a lot of money but my parents had a great work ethic, which they passed down to me, I am forever trying to do it all! I was given my first horse for my 10th birthday. (I think because my brother kept complaining about me always riding his horse.) From there I never looked back, I began riding and training not only my own horse but anyone who wanted me to work with their horse.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I began writing for a horse magazine in my late twenties, where I wrote articles and did photography work. Always an avid reader, one day, I decided, “I can do this!” and I began writing The Reluctant Courier. Drawing on my own experiences working with horses and animals and people in general, I created Sandi, a young, independent rodeo contestant. Even though the individuals who read The Reluctant Courier all said it was “great” and “better than many published books,” my writing got sidelined by life, and my lack of self confidence.
At 70 years old, after four children, seven grandchildren, running a couple of businesses, a divorce, a successful remarriage, the death of my father, and eventually my mother I decided with the absolute support of my husband and entire family to self-publish The Reluctant Courier and then in December of 2024 the next in the series, Sara Hoyt, Her Mother’s Daughter. Coming in 2025 will be the 3rd in the series, For No Apparent Reason.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love Michael Connelly, James Patterson, and Nora Roberts. I like suspense, trying figure out who done it! Life is my inspiration, there are so many things I see and a back story will just come to mind.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Sara Hoyt, is the daughter of Steven Sandi Hoyt from my first book. Her father has always urged her to be able to defend herself, and she has done exceedingly well at it. Don't wait for some guy to swing a sword for you, pick it up and use it yourself, was his motto. Now he is missing, their a people following her, her house is bugged and the police seem to be ignoring it all.
