Featured Interview With Author Nicole Cazaubon
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am Nicole Cazaubon, a proud native of Mauritius, where I have spent my entire life. I feel incredibly grateful for the chance to call this stunning island home, celebrated for its rich multicultural community and breathtaking beaches.
As a parent of two teenagers, I navigate the delicate balance between my family commitments, professional duties, and personal aspirations. Evenings are my sanctuary—time when I can immerse myself in writing, reflecting, and channeling my creative spirit. It’s during these quiet hours that I truly come alive.
My journey in the travel industry has opened doors to countless adventures, blending both work and pleasure. I have explored a multitude of countries, each one presenting its own set of remarkable experiences and viewpoints that have profoundly enriched my life and fueled my passion for writing. From the vibrant streets of Istanbul to Europe’s historical landmarks and the breathtaking landscapes of Africa, every destination has ignited inspiration within me.
Traveling has expanded my worldview while gifting me a wealth of narratives and insights that I draw upon as I chase my aspiration of becoming an author. There is an undeniable magic in immersing oneself in unfamiliar surroundings; it ignites a spark of creativity. Often, I find myself capturing ideas or sketching out storylines during my travels, allowing these moments to shape my storytelling craft.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
From an early age, I always loved to read. I have fond memories of curling up with a good book, getting lost in different worlds and stories. I remember the first time I read a novel that truly captivated me; it opened my eyes to the power of storytelling. Ever since, I’ve been on a quest to devour books of all genres. Whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, or poetry, I’ve read a little bit of everything, which has greatly influenced my writing style.
I have written multiple articles that have appeared in local newspapers across Mauritius. However, my true aspiration has always been to write books, and I am proud to say that I am now fulfilling that dream. Following the release of my first book, I find myself even more inspired to create additional works.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Being bilingual, I enjoy reading in both French and English, and love immersing myself in literature in both languages. I’ve read widely, and my upreferred authors are: Agatha Christie, Lucinda Riley, Liane Moriarty, Virginie Grimaldi, Lisa Jewell and Doreen Virtue.
My preferences lean towards fiction, as well as books that focus on a theme such as self-help, nutrition, mystical and personal development.
I drew a lot of inspiration from the different people I met and the cultures I learned about on my travels.
