Featured Interview With Mike Lord
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in London just before the WW2 burst out. My father remained in the military after the war and was posted to Singapore, which was three delicious and exciting years for me. In 1965 I took my wife and two infant children to Lagos in Nigeria, and although the family went back to UK, I stayed in Nigeria for 12 years, and then work was offered to me in Libya, Ethiopia, Botswana and Kenya. In 1985 I want to the North West Frontier Province in Pakistan! This was followed by Sri Lanka, and now Vietnam, where I live and work.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I always loved books, and my family brought me up on Anna Sewell, John Buchan and of course Edgar Wallace and I progressed to G A Henty, and then of course “James Bond”.
I did not start writing until 1996, when was living in Sri Lanka and lived on the edge of a coconut estate. I visited Singiriya and climbed the stairs to the top of the rock. Many ladies asked me and one another who were the ladies in the frescoes in the Hall of Mirrors? That started me writing…
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I do most reading on flights, so thrillers like Chris Ryan and George MacDonald Fraser were an immediate choice, and one day I came across Miracles of Life by J G Ballard.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
I wrote six thrillers, and then my autobiography, and then 37 Romance novellas which I self published as eBooks. I say novellas as they are each about 25/30,000 words, and each of which take me about one month to write, edit, re-edit and publish.
