Featured Interview With Author Martin Tracey
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Hi everyone, I live in Birmingham, UK with my wife, my blind Jack Russell dog 'Ringo' and my black & white cat 'Dotty'. I used to play in bands in and around Birmingham but I swapped writing songs for novels quite a few books ago now! Needless to say that I love music, especially The Beatles (to a point that borders obsession), travelling and football (or soccer as my friends say in the States) especially Wolverhampton Wanderers – again fairly obsessively! I also loved horror films as a kid and this fascination for things that are 'otherworldly' has never left me!"
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I won two competitions as a young boy for writing stories. I discovered from a very early age that I enjoyed the writing process and creating things from the pits of my imagination. I was also an avid reader as a kid and Enid Blyton was a master storyteller that could take a young mind on magical journeys. After reading the likes of Stephen King, James Herbert and Richard Laymon in my later years (I love their genre) I really got back into reading and writing due to the infectious explosion of Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code. Then my appetite for gangster stories was suitably whetted by Martina Cole. So just like my taste for music, my taste for reading genres are also fairly eclectic. I wrote my first book 'Beneath The Floodlights' due to my love for soccer and vampires! – yep, it's quite a mash up!
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
As mentioned above there are several authors who I have admired but to be honest I'd happily read any book in almost any genre as long as it has a good story!
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Although I am an author who 'writes dark fiction that strikes a chord' (i.e stories that always have an element of thrills, chills and music involved) my two immediate forthcoming projects are non-fiction. I'm working with the 80's female popstars of Fuzzbox and Scarlet Fantastic to tell their respective stories – although in Maggie's case (Scarlet Fantastic) it's more of a series of photo books generated by her late brother's photos of historical social importance including very early Duran Duran! I also write the Judd Stone series and my most recent release in the series 'Double Fantasy' (book 4) sees Judd take a holiday from private detective work for a boozy weekend in Liverpool – but it turns into anything but a holiday as he gets chased out of Liverpool by gangsters straight into the midst of an evil satanic cult!
