Featured Interview With Author M. F. Hopkins
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in a small west African country of American parents, came to the US when I was a little over one year old, and grew up and still reside in the San Francisco Bay Area. I love California, even though the cost of living is too damned high, especially for a hard-working cafeteria lady.
I was a pretty good student throughout my school years, and I ended up getting a Bachelors of Arts degree in a field I only dabbled in. (The fashion industry IS blood-thirsty. lol) After obtaining certificates in two other fields, in addition to writing a few short stories for fun, I finally decided to write more… still for fun though.
Being a long-time romance reader, in addition to being a big history nerd (the more ancient, the better), my brain started spinning stories based on actual history and mythology from around the world.
Nowadays–after a 9-year relationship that went up in toxic flames, and two moves–I can now say that I'm a relatively happy cat mom.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I've had a love for books even before I knew how to read. (My mother taught me the alphabet before kindergarden). As a toddler, I'd always gravitate to our living room's built-in bookshelf; I'd pull books from the shelves and stare at the letters. Of course, if the book had illustrations, I was on Cloud 9.
The odd thing was that I'd do that at other people's homes as well: my grandmother, the neighbors, etc.
I wrote short fantastical stories as a kid and my mother always saved them. Unfortunately, I don't remember what they were about, and my childhood 'collected works' are gone.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Everytime I get this question, I have to say "I don't know." There are too many authors and genres that I love. I'd list a few faves, then slap my forehead and say "Oh, how did I forget him/her?"
I will state that I love history, and the romance and horror genres.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
The latest book is still a work-in-progress. I'm a very slow writer.
The first two books of my Angelo trilogy are self-published and on Amazon.
Book One: Within the span of 300 years, 'Angelo, Texas' centers on four mysterious men who wind up in the small town of Angelo. Their individual stories reveal the bizarre truth of their predicament and what they are, in additon to romance.
Book Two: 'A Good and Fair Trade' focuses on a former incubus and his struggle to fit in with town life and his attraction to the granddaughter of the woman who summoned him.
