Featured Interview With Author Laura Hern
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Blessings! I was born in Texas and grew up in the Panhandle in a small company town called Phillips. I loved to read and play music. In school, I learned to play every instrument and became a Lutheran school Band Teacher for many years. My husband passed away in 2007 and I moved to Minnesota where I am currently employed as a Commercial Risk Insurance Specialist.
I do have two rescue cats! Powie and KiKi are now 8 years old and definitely run the household!I also have 2 grown children and 1 grandpuppy!
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was an avid reader and about my 9th birthday, my dad gave me the entire collection of Nancy Drew mysterires! I was hooked! – I love the stories of Agatha Christie, and of course, my favorite detective is Hercule Poirot! Writing is a passion!
In 2012, the first book I wrote was a non-fiction story about my late husband's journey through two lung transplants. It's called Transplanted Faith and it helped me throug the grieving process. To this day, I still cry when trying to read it.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I enjoy reading mysteries of all genres, but I must admit, Cozy Mysteries are my favorite! While Agatha Christie can have fairly dark mysteries, I do love her writing. I enjoy Dan Brown and his character Robert Langdon. I think my favorite of his books is The Origin. I also enjoy reading contemporary romance, the cleaner versions that leave the details to a persons imagination!
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Book 6 of the Lainey Maynard Cozy Mystery Series is called Dumpster Diving at Last Stop Campground. It is based in the Black Hills of South Dakota, where my late husband grew up. We visited the black hills for family vacations for almost 25 years.
Lainey Maynard, a widow and an insurance investigator, has a group of widow friends called 'the Whoopee group' that meet weekly to play cards, eat, and enjoy. Over the series, they help Lainey solve the crime or murder or mystery, Each one has their own quirky personalities that shine with humor throughout the series. My adult children always tease me by saying they don't want to make me mad or I will make them the murder victims in my next story! LOL
