Featured Interview With Author Kit Karson
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in western Montana very close to where I live now. I'm fifth generation of my family in this area so have very deep roots. The original family ranch is still in operation and run by my cousins. My husband and I have busy schedules and are gone a lot, so can't have pets, but we live on a mountain and love watching the birds, bunnies, foxes and other creatures that visit our home. Right now we are being swarmed by hummingbirds. I can hardly keep their feeders filled.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I've been an avid reader for as far back as I can remember. At one point, I seriously considered becoming a librarian so I could be surrounded by books. Although writing novels has been on my mind for decades, I didn't start writing until about three years ago when I came to a point in my life where it was feasible.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I mostly read mysteries and thrillers. I'm always looking for a new author and recently started reading Anne Cleeves. The authors that my writing is usually compared to are Wyoming authors CJ BOX and Craig Johnson. I've read most of theirs and also all of Lee Child….and so many others, to many to name. They all inspire me.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My most recent release is Savage Malice, Book 5 of The Anderson Chronicles. Of the five, this one required the most research and took me an entire year to write. It focuses on cattle mutilation. Local ranchers took me out to their fields and I got to see actual mutilations the morning after. I wanted to cover all of the theories connected with this unsolved crime and also give each one due recognition. In the book, a human murder occurs on the same night as the mutilated cattle and Sheriff Elliott has to find the connection.
