Featured Interview With Author Joseph Lewis
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I have been in education for 49 years as a teacher, coach, counselor, and administrator. As a principal, instead of giving a speech at graduation, I would select a song and sing it to the kids and their parents. The kids called it "their" song. My background is in psychology, and I use it to craft my thriller-crime-mystery novels.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Early in life. Sixth grade. My teacher would give the class story starters- 3 or 4 paragraphs on a note card. Our job was to complete the story.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I enjoy reading David Baldacci, James Patterson, John Sandford and CJ Box. One of my reviews stated, "If you like James Patterson, you'll love Joseph Lewis." High praise, and humbling, for me. It was natural to read thriller-crime-mystery because that is the genre I enjoy reading. What sets me apart though, is that I have a strong coming-of-age thread running throughout my books.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Yéʼii are spiritual deities of the Navajo. There are many, but there is one they don't speak of, even mentioning it's name. That's Black Yéʼii because by talking about it, the Navajo feel they are inviting evil into their lives. My book deals with good vs Evil in a modern day thriller. Because of the research I had to do, it took me a year to write. It is based upon a fabrication law enforcement invented in order to keep four individuals safe. The secret was never to be spoken of. But someone did, and now MS-13, a violent gang, is in town to find out how four of its members died in a quiet house, on a quiet street a year previous.
