Featured Interview With Author Joe Kinnison
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Started in St. Louis and returned there to raise my family. I am fascinated with fish. I am an avid angler, and I could stare at an aquarium all day.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started writing about thirty years ago when I started in the financial industry. I realized quickly that few understood how investments are actually priced and traded. I think narrative is the best way to reach people considering complex subjects, so I have written what I call "financial fictions," fictional stories with real finance info.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Joseph Finder probably inspired me most, and I like Stephen Frey as well. Both write fictional stories, often involving businesses. Most of these are thrillers, which is my favorite genre. In non-fiction, I like Ben Mezrich.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Stimmy-An Alternative History Novel was inspired by The Plot Against America, by Philip Roth. It imagines America five years ago. Two families react to political and social events of a pandemic without a stimulus (Stimmy). The situation forces desperate choices and pits generations against each other. The author's attempt is to be non-political, and instead look at the economic consequences, crash and recovery. During that crash and recovery, it explores succession, outside interference, and the nature of legacy.
