Featured Interview With Hazel Lakeland
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in a Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, a bohemium, arty town with it’s old, still functioning fishing port. I still live nearby in the next town, Hadleigh. I’ve owned a tortoise for about 36 years!
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Young around four or five. I didn’t start writing until I was 63.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have so many favourite authors, to many to list. At the moment I’m reading John Fowles The Magus. It was my story alone that inspired me to write. It sort of poured out of me!
Tell us a little about your latest book?
It is a universal tale conveyed through a personal adventure.
A compelling and sometimes painfully honest story that spans four generations with Hazel at the centre. We watch as she terrifyingly treads the same path as her grandmother to miraculously survive and discover the secret surrounding her death. That, however, is not the end and another strange story emerges.
It presents us with very intimate details, but in the telling it also confronts some universal truths about the human spirit and sheds an intense light on our common strengths and weaknesses.
Vividly brought to life within these pages are tales of daily life, the perplexities of growing up, the deep need for love and to be understood, and the trust we put in authority.
It’s an unbelievable, amazing but true story and the whole book glows with a love of life and a deep appreciation of nature and our wonderful world.
