Featured Interview With Author Eileen O’Finlan
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in Western Massachusetts, but have lived most of my life in the central part of the state. Both parents were from Vermont. That's where most of my extended family lives and where my heart is. I am a New Englander to the core. I've had at least one cat since I was six years old and can't imagine life without one. My current cat is a gorgeous calico Maine Coon named Autumn Amelia. She is also one of the main characters in my new release, All the Furs and Feathers.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I can't give a specific age when I realized my love for books. It seemed always to be there. My parents read to me practically from birth. The first books I truly fell in love with were Little Women and the Nancy Drew Mystery Series.
I began writing in elementary school, but became more serious about it in jr. high and high school. Not long after high school, I realized that I wanted to write novels.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors are Louisa May Alcott, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Charlotte Bronte, Stephen King, Anne Rice, Diana Gabaldon, Diane Setterfield, Jodi Picoult, Alice Hoffman, Ellen Marie Wiseman, Marie Benedict, and Martha Hall Kelley to name just a few.
I read in many genres, but historical fiction is my favorite. I also love cozy fantasy, time slip, some horror, suspense, and spy novels.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
All the Furs and Feathers, Cat Tales Book 1 is my first foray into cozy fantasy. I began writing it while I was recovering from major surgery. At first, I was only writing it to amuse myself and pass the time. It started out as a fun reflection on what my cats (I had two at the time, Smokey and Autumn Amelia. Sadly, Smokey has since passed away) would be like if they were human. Before long, it blossomed into a full-fledged novel. When family members and friends began raving about it, I knew it should be published.
