Featured Interview With Author Dena Mason
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in the small town of Eckley, Colorado. Surrounded by family and friends, we had total freedom to ride our bikes anywhere we pleased. We spent our time playing kickball, softball, and riding horses. Our lives followed a routine throughout the years where we spent significate time with family.
This story gives an account to who I was as a child, who I am as an adult, and where I plan to spend Eternity. No wonder I grew up and married the love of my life; my farmer/rancher in Colorado. My husband and I have raised three beautiful children who are following their own paths of life. We live on a farm and raise cattle, and wheat. We have goats, chickens, cats, dogs, and horses.
I have a background of watching loved ones suffer and die. I have learned that dying is a part of living, and I feel that I can give someone a better outlook of encouragement through my spiritual and inspirational writings and speeches.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was born to write. When I was a child, I had imaginary friends. I believe that qualifies as writing before I could. I have followed in my mother's footsteps, by writing in a diary since the age of eight.
I believe that writing is truly a way to self-heal from any kind of trauma. If I could give anyone advice on writing a book, I would say that if it's on your heart, then do it. Becoming an author is not who I have become, writing is who I am.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I'm into poetry, Nonfiction, and Christian based books. I would say that Jodi Picoult is my favorite author, especially: My Sister's Keeper.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Although this story is about my carefree childhood, life circumstances threw curves. Loved ones got sick and suffered the C word of Cancer. My book, "Hoofprints of the Heart' will take you down the path of how my family dealt with a grandmother and then a beloved uncle who lost the battle.
This book is a happy book about growing up in a small town, where I was gifted my gifts by relatives.
But more importantly, you will travel down an old dirt road that leads to the cross of Jesus.
