Featured Interview With Author Dawn Mattera Corsi
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Born and raised in Rhode Island, I've lived in several US states and Florence, Italy. After almost 30 years, I moved back to RI, where I met the love of my life!
For over twenty-five years, I've been helping people create a "dolce vita" by connecting to their purpose and continuing their legacy.
A former electrical engineer, I'm honored to also be a best-selling author, a certified coach, and an award-winning speaker. My communication style offers proven techniques, heartfelt empathy, and a dash of tough love.
But, it hasn't been all cupcakes and unicorns!
Within the span of a few years, I was divorced, laid off twice, moved three times, and faced the most challenging emotional and financial difficulties of my life. Rather than sink into old patterns of depression, I overcame despair to design a life of passion, peace, and purpose.
My writing has spanned across industries, from technical writing for a computer company to motivational employee newsletters for a wellness company. I'm grateful to have five best-selling books, and I'll keep on writing.
I've spoken for the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Hallmark, WeightWatchers, and a defense industry contractor. A regular guest on CBS and Fox News, I've been featured in numerous media outlets.
My husband, Bob, and I have taken gladiator lessons in Rome and driven vintage Vespas through Tuscany. My research for the best gelato continues.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I remember going to the library with my mom every week. I knew the Dewey Decimal System before I had posters of pop stars on my walls.
The tall shelves weren't filled with just books. They were filled with adventure, how-to's, and even hope.
Back in the days when one would request transfers from other libraries by actually talking to a person, the librarians at my local branch recognized my voice on the phone.
My mom devoured romances while my dad pursued non-fiction works.
Following in my father's footsteps, I read authors like Norman Vincent Peale and Dale Carnegie. I thought that, one day, I'd write books that could inspire others to create and live their best life.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
In my college years, I read a lot of Ken Follett and John Grisham novels. Guess I needed the break from math and science!
Since then, my focus has been non-fiction.
As a "student of life", I want to learn how to be a better person so I can help others become their best.
My favorite authors include Jack Canfield, Zig Ziglar, Max Lucado, and Jamie Kern Lima.
I'm inspired by people who overcome the odds and always hold on to hope: people who came from poverty or abusive situations, war heroes, or those with physical disabilities who scale mountains.
Closer to home, my grandparents inspire me. As immigrants, they sacrificed and faced bigotry and hardships. They persevered because they believed in hope and a future for the next generations…for me.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Did you know that people who keep their heritage and traditions alive are happier and healthier? Better still, children who know their family stories have higher self-confidence and do better in school.
With all that's going on in the world, we want something to bring us joy and hope. We want to make a difference and be remembered.
One way to do that is to connect to our heritage. This can lead to a fulfilling life today and continue our legacy for tomorrow.
My latest book, Redeem Your Roots, explores seven keys to bridge the gap between nostalgia and the next generation. They range from easy to more involved, and include topics such as food and travel.
Learn to weave the rich tapestry of your heritage into a life of meaning and purpose while ensuring your family's legacy thrives for generations to come.
Practical, inspiring, and brimming with actionable advice, Redeem Your Roots empowers you to:
CONNECT to your heritage,
CREATE a fulfilling life, and
CONTINUE your legacy.
