Featured Interview With Author Clive Fleury
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in Britain and spent my childhood there, but since then, I’ve been a dedicated globe trotter living and working around the world. Currently, I live between Miami, Florida, and Sydney, Australia. This lifestyle isn’t conducive to keeping pets, though, for a time, I did have a cat called Louis.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I can’t remember when I didn’t read books. They are my escape into other worlds with interesting, exciting people. I was a geek when I was younger and regularly visited my local library to check out new authors. At first, I lived off a diet of science fiction, but as I got older, I branched out and experimented, reading many different genres.
When I left university, I became a trainee journalist and so learned how to properly write. Later, when I moved into films and television, I wrote scripts and then took the plunge and completed my first book called Scary Lizzy. I enjoyed doing this so much that I decided to continue writing novels. Off Season is my latest.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
This is a difficult question to answer cause there are so many, and they have changed over time. But recently, they include Amor Towles (A Gentlemen in Moscow, etc.), Lucy Foley ( A Paris Apartment), Harlan Coban (The Stranger… one of many), and Lee Child (The Jack Reacher series).
These cover a fair range of genres, but currently, my favorite is thrillers/murder mystery. Good books in this genre inspired me to write Off Season, the first of, hopefully, many more books following the exploits of Australian-based Detective Ramesh Ryan.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Off Season is a fish-out-of-water tale about a disgraced, high-flying thirty-eight-year-old Australian-Indian detective, Ramesh Ryan, who is relocated from Sydney to a tiny New South Wales town only to discover that small doesn’t mean peaceful. That murder doesn’t take a rest in the off-season.
