Featured Interview With Author Christopher Magnus
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Greetings everyone, my name is Christopher Magnus. I am a musician, artist, husband, father, first time author, and an avid fan of all things science fiction. I was born and raised in Southern California where I currently live.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I remember loving to read these little cardboard block books when I was four years old. They were my favorite books to read back then. After that I had a fascination with Dr. Seuss and that helped me to get my mind wrapped around the idea that reading can be fun. It was much later when I was sixteen and in Highschool when my love for reading came back in full force. The book was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson.
I had never spent any major length of time writing anything worth reading before writing my first novel. I had written lyrics for songs, short poems, and extensively long emails, but nothing close to telling a story. I finally gave myself a chance at writing back in May of 2021.
I was up late at 3 o’clock in the morning helping my son to get back to sleep. While I was doing so, I had this sentence rolling around inside of my head. It did not want to go away and it continued to repeat, again and again. I decided that the best way to deal with this situation that I was experiencing was to write it down. I opened up a notepad application on my phone and began writing the sentence. After that, more sentences began to unfold in my mind, so I continued to write. When I had decided that I had gone as far as I could go before falling asleep, I was surprised to discover that I had written ten paragraphs. It was these ten paragraphs that would become the beginning to my first novel.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors are Stephen King, Douglas Adams, Tolkien, and George Martin. My favorite genre(s) to read are Science Fiction, Horror, Fantasy, and a combination of all three. I take my inspiration from my imagination and my life experiences. If I had to list any authors that have inspired me to write, they would have to be my favorites for certain: King, Adams, Tolkien, and Martin. Sounds like a great lineup for a rock band. Hahaha!!!
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My first novel is titled: The Intergalactic Information Super-Highway. It took me five months in total to write and edit it. Being that it is 579 pages long (depending on which format you are reading: Paperback, eBook, or Hardcover) I was impressed that I had as much to say as I did. My initial intention was to find out if I could write a story that would hopefully reach 100,000 words. When all was finally written, I had surpassed 167,000 words.
As for my novel, it is a story about a man named Zantarth. He is flung far from him home world after a cataclysmic battle and set into a place that is both foreign and strangely familiar to him. He is hell bent on his quest for revenge after the love of his life is murdered. In pursuing his target, he finds it more than difficult to see the line that has been blurred which separates his need for revenge and satisfying his blood lust. Constantly battling his inner demons, he must find a new hope within himself and with his new crew that he brings together in order to stop the most sinister evil that has plagued him and the galaxy that he lives in.
