Featured Interview With Author Chantèl Swart
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Rustenburg, South Africa. I teach English at a local high school which I enjoy very much. I get paid to talk about literature! How cool is that? I taught English in China for just over a year which was a wonderfully enriching experience. I loved the food and the culture. I would definitely recommend travelling there.
I am a mother of two amazing children and happily married to the love of my life.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have had a fascination with books since I could read. My mother very proudly tells everyone that I read over 100 books in my first year of formal schooling. I fell inlove with poetry and the classics when I was a teenager. Poets like William Blake inspired my rebelious streak.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favourite authors are Dean Koontz and Andrew McGahan. My all time favourite book has to be Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley. I enjoy reading mysteries, science fiction, social commentary and of course poetry. My favourite poet is William Blake.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My book is called Overthought. It is a collection of poetry from the mind of a compulsive overthinker.
I am currently working on an anthology of short stories (that serve as social commentary on issues that we face today).
