Featured Interview With C.H. Reece
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. Yep, the Mormon state. And, No, I am not a sister wife….. lol. I love the mountains and even though the weather changes with a drop of a hat, It’s home. I currently live about 45 minutes outside SLC, not far from HAFB (Hill Air Force Base). I’ve had many animals over the years, but I am a cat person. I think after she leaves us, I won’t get another fur baby for a while. It makes it easier to travel.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I didn’t really read much as a kid. My first book that really got me into reading was “The Vampire Lestat” by Anne Rice. I was a Freshman in high school at the time, and I remember a friend of mine lent me the book. After that, I read all her books, bought them on audiobook and even put some to my mp3 player to listen to at work.
I had a required creative writing class as a Senor in high school, and I remember thinking I would never use any of this stuff in life, so why bother. I wrote a few Poems with the help of another student. I never thought myself a writer, even after I wrote my own in my 30s.
Believe it or not, I dreamt it! Most of my first two books was a dream I had.
I had an amazingly vivid dream that woke me up in the wee hours of the morning, actually compelled to scribble it all down. That was over 15 years ago. When I finished writing it down, I thought I got it out of my system. I put it away and several years later, there was a flood in my home. The notebook was misplaced during the packing and replacing of items.
Just before Covid-19, I started reading a lot of romance, fantasy, erotica books, and it dawned on me that I had written a book, or at least the mad scribbles of one. When I went looking for the notebook, I couldn’t find it anywhere. But, the majority of the dream was etched into my mind, and I found myself scribbling into another notebook. (I added a few things to fluff it up a bit.) I spent most of the year writing in more detail, tweaking here and there. Always finding something I needed to change or elaborate on. It kind of has a life of its own and consumes the majority of my time. But, I think it will be worth it in the end.
I got my start by publishing my books on Inkitt, 4 months ago today. Since then, my first book, Witch’s Link, has had nearly 23,000 reads with the lowest chapter being an 88% binge rate. I currently have 2 completed books and one ongoing. The “WITCH’S LINK SERIES” is now available on Amazon.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I think every book you read, every movie you see, and every day life, inspires and influences how you write. But, if I have to choose a few authors, I would say:
Anne Rice – When I was a teenager.
Dean Koontz – as a young adult.
But, as an adult the authors I get my biggest insirations from are LB Harpdog, LaurG Novels, Milly Taiden, Alta Hensley, Stasia Black, LORDGRTH… There are just too many.
As you can see, I prefer to read Romance, Fantasy, and Erotica. Although I am not opposed to a good Sci-Fi Thriller or Mystery.
You know who really inspires me?
LB Harpdog – At an extremely low time in his life, he wrote a series called MIND NIGHT BLUE. Through his personal pain, he wrote. Through the hardest time in his life, he wrote.
He’s an amazingly visual author. I love it when an author can paint a picture and draw you into the story. So much that you feel like you’re standing right there as each scene is played out. He accomplishes this very well. Perfected “Show not Tell”.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
I am currently working on the 3rd book in my series. “ Witch’s Link—The Matriarch and the Alpha”.
If you haven’t read the first 2 books, you should. This book is a short continuation leading into past events that will give you more insight to why certain things happened the way they did in book 1 and 2. A sort of prequel.
While this book can be read as a standalone novel, it has a prologue/recap of the first two books, you would be missing out on all the juicy details if you don’t go read them.
However, let’s tell you a little about this book:
This book is the beginning of it all. The decisions made in a blink of an eye causing a ripple effect in the lives of so many. It’s about how the paths of the main characters in book 1 and 2 intersected.
The new Apprentice to the Matriarch of the East Coast Coven of Witches, Samantha Davenport, and her soulmate and Alpha of the Blue Moon Pack, Damen Winthrop, are celebrating their union. During the celebration, Alpha James Taylor reminisces about how it all began…
James POV
II was just passing by in my pickup truck, minding my own business, when I felt a connection to my mate. She was running and I felt her fear. Well, my instinct was to help. I drove to the estate and saw a child running to the Winthrop property. I saw my mate running behind the child and then Mr. Wardwell running after them. I got out of my truck and ran after them. In my mind, he was trying to hurt my mate. I pictured his face, and it held anger in it.
I didn’t know he wasn’t going to hurt my mate. All I saw was half of the equation. I shifted with rage and tackled Curtis Wardwell. He screamed in pain as I slashed his chest. My mate screamed when she heard my attack. I looked up and saw her disgust and anger filled eyes. She used her powers on me and threw me across the Winthrop yard, hitting a tree and breaking it in half. I shifted back to my human form and got up, looking confused. She ran to Curtis chanting something when Elizabeth’s husband rushed out the back patio door running toward his friend, I just attacked.
“Isabel, I-I…” Curtis breathed hard. “ I … love you Is..a..bel.” he gasped for air.
I saw Elizabeth run out the door next as her son ran to her. It had been almost fourteen years since I saw her. She looked at me with sadness, and looked at her son, then back at me. I could feel it, he was mine, and she nodded her head at me as if answering the question I never asked. I slumped down to the ground on my knees in shock at what I had just done.
I could still hear chanting and crying from my mate, Isabel. Everyone was crying, even my son. I killed him. I killed my mate’s husband because of a mistake. I killed Curtis Wardwell in front of my son. I should have never been on that road. I should have never attacked without knowing all the facts. I took an innocent life and in the process destroyed mine and my mates’ life.

I remember thinking she will never want me now…
Isabel POV
It’s the day of my husband’s funeral, and all I can think about is the man that murdered him is my mate…
