Featured Interview With Author Alan Wade Hounshell
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in Ohio and raised in the little community of VanCleve, KY. The community was filled with colorful characters, and there were lots of places for kids to go on adventures without the worries of having someone harm them during the mid to early 70s. I left and obtained a master's in clinical psychology and have worked for the last 30 years in mental health. I lived in Lexington, KY, for over 25 years and moved recently back to a small town (Halls, TN) where there is only one intersection with a traffic light. People are friendly, and you get to know others fairly quickly. My wife of 24 years and I have four children, and we are never without pets. Currently, we have a cat named Binx and an Aussie shepherd mix named Ginger.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I always read as a small child and I loved the school library. Being a big fan of Saturday Night Live during the time of Bill Murray and Dan Akroyd, I decided to submit skits to them. They were nicely rejected at the time because what does a thirteen year old kid know about writing skit comedy anyhow. Doing my first play in high school also triggered something that would later to act in community and dinner theater. In my mid-thirties, I began writing dinner theater plays – doing parodies of old television shows. In 2016, I sat down and wrote my first novel and it's been at least one book a year since that time.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I am eclectic in my reading. I read James Patterson and Dean Koontz for psychological thrillers, and I read fantasy as well, having completed all of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, Christopher Paolini's Eldest series, and Alan Dean Foster.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
