Lately, I’ve been seeing more and more emails sent to authors that look official, promising exposure, awards, or promotion on popular websites. I recorded a video to walk through two real examples of these emails. These are the types of messages authors like you might receive, and I explain why they raise red flags.

What These Emails Usually Say:
• Your book was “selected” for a special feature (it wasn’t)
• The site claims to be a big deal but has no real presence
• They list inflated prices and pressure you with “limited time” offers
• The email is vague, poorly written, or overly dramatic
Here’s the truth about unsolicited emails from book promotion companies:
If you’re getting cold emails from sites you’ve never heard of, always do your research. Check their social media. Look for real traffic. Google their name with the word “scam.” And remember, just because someone says your book was selected doesn’t make it true.
Why I’m Speaking Up
I’ve been helping authors for over a decade with real promotion. When I see emails like this going around, I want to make sure no author feels pressured or tricked into wasting money.
If you’re ever unsure about a company or offer you receive, reach out and ask. I’d rather you check first than get taken for a ride.
Quick Tip: Don’t trust a site that doesn’t show real social proof, testimonials, or any transparency. If it feels off, it probably is.
