Featured Interview With Tricia McGill
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in London but have made my home in Victoria Australia for many years. I have always had pets and can't imagine life without a dog in the house. I currently have two dogs, a shih tzu and a fox terrier, both are spoilt. I support various wildlife protection organizations. I come from a large family of which I was the youngest and my siblings started me onto reading at an early age, and so began my love of books and the library. I have written for years and been published for about 20.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was probably about five when I received a copy of Alice in Wonderland and loved entering the weird and wonderful world along with her down the rabbit hole. I can also recall I had an illustrated copy of A Christmas Carol when I was very young. I loved writing compositions or stories as soon as I learnt to read I guess, but didn't have time to write my first full length novel until I retired from my job. And then I was hooked and have been writing every since. I love creating characters and they always come first as soon as I have worked out the plot and time period etc.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have always loved reading historicals and time-travels so therefore it was only natural that I began to write them. I also love contemporary romances especially if they have a touch of humour along with the romance. I was inspired to write romance in the early days by authors like LaVyrle Spencer and Bertrice Small. My all time favourite book was Wuthering Heights, and I still have an early edition on my book shelf.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Challenging Mountains is the third in my Settlers Series, Books set in the early pioneer days of Australia. Readers seem to like learning about what life was like back then when there was no mod-cons. Challenging Mountains follows the story of Tim and Josephine's trek from Sydney to Port Philip which was to become Melbourne. This journey overland took four weeks and they faced many dangers and hazards along the way. Tim is not your usual hero, he is often at odds with Jo, his travelling companion for she is hot-headed and at times can be more trouble than she is worth. I loved writing about their conflicts.
