Featured Interview With S.K. Grunin
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up on a farm in Michigan and love nature, animals, and just being outdoors. I have always had at least one dog and currently have a Shiba Inu named Kona. What an independent character! If you want a dog to fetch DON"T get a Shiba! Currently I reside in Naples, FL with my husband. I am paint with oils so moving from the north to Florida has changed my painting scenery dramatically. I am an avid painter of sunsets on the Gulf Coast – check out my website for my artwork and photography and you can purchase besides the artwork – puzzles, masks, towels, yoga mats, mugs, phone cases – even can purchase my book cover on these and other items. BTW currently I am donating all profits from masks sold on my site to the SW Farmers Foodbank.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
When I was in Kindergarten I hated naps so I snuck off to the book shelf area while the other kids took their naps. Eventually, the teacher saw that I was quiet when I was looking at books and since I wouldn't lie down and take naps like the other kids she allowed me to quietly go to the book shelves and sit and look at books. I wrote a lot of stories and poems as a kid and I kept a journal for most of my young life. I still occasionally journal when I was an adult. I found it fun to go back years later and read these writings. I loved reading and writing which is probably part of my reason for getting two Master Degrees and my PhD!!
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love most genres. My favorites are Children's, mystery, historical fiction, educational, humor, and biographies. My favorite authors include: Roald Dahl, ee Cummings, JK Rowling, Faulkner, Dickens, Hemingway, Steinbeck, Bronte (both), Dr. Seuss, and Agatha Christie.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Life Lessons and Tales of Little MisFit -Life Isn't Always What It Seems – this book promotes sharing of life lessons between children, young adults and adults. Life Lessons and Tales of Little MisFit is a collection of humorous tales targeted for kids ages 4-10 (for parents to read to children younger than 9) and for young adults to see that it’s natural and okay to not always fit in and to be different from other kids and that Life Isn't Always What It Seems. The book was designed to help all young children, and young adults, including those with needing to build their confidence and self-esteem. It provides examples of situations and how humor and allowing oneself to be oneself helps us to develop and build resilience and coping skills as well allow them to use their own imagination and bravado to grow in their own way and to follow their own path in life. The humorous tales are great for providing a media for kids to not only share their own life stories but to also ask parents, grandparents, teachers and mentors about their own life lessons and tales.
