Featured Interview With Nicole D’Settemi
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My name is Nicole D’Settemi, and I am from Niagara Falls, New York. I spent time living in South Florida, New York City and other areas before settling here, in the Hudson Valley.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started writing at a very young age of maybe, six or seven. I started reading around the same age, and was a fierce reader during Summer Breaks and things like that, because my Grandmother instilled the importance of reading in us from a very young age.
The older I grew, I tipped toward writing more, and was writing poetry from childhood on. I used to write little plays and short stories to entertain my sister, and even pen-palled to over 30 international pals. I published a “newsletter” about my favorite athlete and hero, from childhood, at around 12, which was when I also had a poem i’d written published first. Through the years I continued to write privately–poetry, journals, diaries, etc. By 20, I was volunteering at a local paper, doing “reporting,” at a very simplistic level, but it was then I knew I had to pursue this thing I loved doing, writing, in all capacities.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Anais Nin, Janet Fitch, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Plath, Poe, Dickinson, Emma Cline, Robin Wasserman, Andersen Prunty, Chuck Palahniuk, Sexton, Langston Hughes, and so many more.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
I am penning the prequel to Addictarium, a part-real memoir revolving around my amp recovery from addiction among other issues. Narcotary highlights the first stage of the treatment center, which was dubbed the boot-camp phase. The story details Natalie’s journey for 9 months, seeking recovery from addiction, mental illness, emotional instability and over-coming fresh traumas which occurred while she was IN the center.
