Featured Interview With Maya Tyler
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m a hopeless romantic who had the good fortune to meet her husband (of 15 years) back in high school. I believe life should be as fantastic as a Disney movie—I love pretty much everything about Disney—I’m listening to a Disney soundtrack radio station right now—so I write paranormal romance novels with happily-ever-after endings. My husband and I have two amazing, clever sons and a nine-pound shih tzu with a lot of attitude.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve always loved books. My mom read to me a lot when I was a kid. I became a lifelong avid reader, reading everything I could get my hands on—from the classics to Nancy Drew. I started writing—short stories and poetry—when I was a kid…as young as age seven. I still have many of my early pieces. I took a brief leave from writing during my university days and began writing my first novel in my 20s.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Favorite authors? I have many. I read everything from historical to paranormal, and I’m consistently picking up new authors and trying new genres. Right now, I am enjoying Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series, several historical romances by Tessa Dare, and Sarah Castille’s Redemption series. I am a very open-minded reader. Where do I find inspiration? I am inspired by well-written books and encouraged by reading writing advice by authors such as Stephen King.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book, A Vampire’s Tale, is a story about a struggling author Marisa Clements who left a financially secure career to follow her dreams. It’s a tougher industry than she expected and, to make ends meet, she begins writing novels about vampires even though she doesn’t believe they exist. <<Seeing is believing.>> When her latest hero, an ancient vampire named Corgan Halton, steps into her living room, she is confronted with an impossible truth. Vampires are real. He asks her to write his life’s story.
What separates A Vampire’s Tale from every other vampire romance out there? Corgan’s presence in Marisa’s life places her in grave danger. He saw the future, knew the risks, and still approached her so he feels responsible for her safety. There are a number of ways he can protect her, but he cannot save her alone. He looks to a motley group of vampires and wizards for help. This story incorporates mystery and a bit of unexpected adventure with a happily-ever-after romance.
