Featured Interview With L. L. Walters
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
As my Father was in the military when I was growing up, we moved all over the US on a regular basis. Born in Texas, I've also lived in the metropolis of Atlanta, the Amish country of Pennsylvania, and many more. "Home base" was my grandmother's place, a big country farm on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Time has past and the farm is gone but yet again, I find myself sitting on a front porch, ignoring the traffic going by as I write, watching the corn grow and admiring both people and Mother Nature in all their glory.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I've been writing for 20 years. My first attempt was a sci-fi novel which I worked on for most of that time. I lost it all one fateful day when my computer crashed and my back ups went "poof" (Tip for all future writers there – BACK UP DAILY on 2 memory sticks!) After spending several days crying, I realized my true passion was the holiday season, children and the elderly. So here I am now. (Will I ever go back to re-do the sci-fi? Maybe. For when you have a book idea, it seems to stick with you until you get the words out. 😉
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My inspirations are people who, even at the end of a long hard day can still manage to find a smile. They are what make life enjoyable!
Tell us a little about your latest book?
“Elves Up North – A Family for Castor” is a chapter book with mild interactive activity. Although a children’s story, it was written for all ages to participate in the adventure.
The tale is about a little Elf who learns that sometimes family members don’t always have to be related. Along the way, become part of the story, meet your new friends, a wizard named “The Maestro”, two mice named Misty and Mistletoe, the Elves of Table 12, and help Santa save Christmas this season. With diverse characters and even some with special needs, it shows Santa’s workshop as the “real” world of today.
I am the mother of 3 and grandmother to 3 beautiful multicultural children. I am a firm believer that no matter what your age, the holidays are the best time to make smiles and new memories with family and friends. So, whether reading to the little ones at bedtime or out loud to a group, “Elves Up North – A Family for Castor” encourages everyone to feel involved and join in on the fun!
