Featured Interview With JR Thompson
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in Charleston, West Virginia as a very unhealthy baby. The end of my esophagus was closed off and through a series of complications, I could have easily died. But God had much greater plans for my life and through His grace I was able to have my health restored. I was raised in West Virginia and spent the first 30+ years of my life there.
A few years back, my wife and I felt God calling us to Montana and we have been here ever since. We reside in a small ghost town consisting of about twelve people. We have three goats that we keep as pets – Shazaam, Reese, and Dipstick.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
When I was a type, I remember enjoying being read to – a lot! As I got older, I stopped enjoying reading as much, but developed a passion for writing somewhere around the age of ten. The older I got, the more I wrote and now, sometimes, writing has a tendency of taking over my life if I allow it to do so.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love to read books by Peggy Hoy, a longterm friend and fellow Christian author. My favorite genre is definitely Christian, but I do not use that term lightly. A lot of the more popular “Christian” books out there are Christian in name only – they contain a lot of inappropriate sexual scenes and foul language. Those books should be re-categorized as they do not line up with what the Word of God refers to as Christian. I love reading my Bible and allowing God to speak to me through His Word.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
The second edition of “Revenge Fires Back” came out on August 1, 2017. The inspiration for the novel came from several years of serving the community as a therapeutic foster parent. I met so many families who told me horror stories of how their children were treated after being removed from their custody – both stories told from parents and from children – that I began to realize I had spent my whole life having no idea what went on in the foster care system. I wrote “Revenge Fires Back” to show the world what can and does happen in “the system” and about how easy it is for children to be taken away from their families under false pretenses.
I also have a new Christian mystery coming out on October 14, 2017. “Hidden in Harmony” centers around a devout Christian family who tries to do the right thing by feeding and clothing a man in need, only to find their family in grave danger. They must rely on their faith in God to get them through the storm of a lifetime.
