Featured Interview With Felicity Abbott
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Hi! I was born and raised in New England. Despite the cold I love it here. I love to watch the snow fall gently outside my window as I cozy up to a book beside the fire. My dog, a bichon poodle mix is the model for the dog in my debut novel Sorry, Bestie.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
It seems that I've always loved reading. I remember rushing home with the Scholastic book flyer every month with at least a half dozen books checked off that I wanted. I was lucky that my parents valued reading and got as many books for me as they could afford. In the nice weather I would go out to the shed, which I had remade into a sort of tree house, to have a quiet spot to read. The first story I wrote when I was about 8 years old about a dog who could speak English.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
As a child I enjoyed reading books by Judy Blume and Phyllis Reynolds Naylor and various mystery series: Nancy Drew books, Encyclopedia Brown, and of course Sherlock Holmes. My favorite genre to read and write is fiction; contemporary, historical, mystery and suspense.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My new novel is called Sorry, Bestie. The main character Lacy is a 15 year old girl dealing with the mean girls at school. She is sad and lonely because her friends left for another school. Lacy is having trouble understanding why her friends left, also she is wondering how she will get through this school year without them. This is especially difficult for her because she feels like she will be stuck facing the mean girls all by herself. Then a new girl arrives at school. Just when it looks like Faith and Lacy will become friends, the mean girls recruit Faith into their group. Things go from bad to worse when Faith is accused of vandalism and Lacy's crush Kyle believes that Lacy ratted her out. Will Lacy find the courage to stand up to the bullies? Will she be able to save the new girl before it's too late?
