Featured Interview With Elaine Kaye
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am the author of A Gregory Green Adventure Series. I first created Gregory Green after my son, who loved my homemade pea soup, thus inspiring the story Pea Soup Disaster. He had a Cabbage Patch doll named Sammy, and that’s how Sammy the teddy bear came to be.
I have worked as a library assistant and teacher’s assistant in elementary schools in the Sunshine State. Currently, I live in Florida, but I have called Michigan; Honolulu, Hawaii; and Okinawa, Japan home.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Growing up, I didn't like reading at all, actually, until 8th grade when I got a Sue Barton nurse book. I found this book at a huge, old library that was like a museum and amazing for book lovers, and, as in my case, it created a book lover. That was when I became enchanted with going to the library and reading books. I would check out books just to check out books.
I started writing in 1982 when a coworker of mine mentioned she started writing a book and I told her I'd always wanted to write. Her response to me was, "Then do it." From then on, I've been writing.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love to read books by Jan Karon, Beverly Macomber, and Beverly Lewis.
My favorite genre is romance. All kinds of romance, but I have a soft spot for Amish love stories and western/frontier stories.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Doctor Mom is part of A Gregory Green Adventure series. Raising five kids, I was always sewing up one of their stuffed animals. Once, I even gave stitches to Sammy the Cabbage Patch Doll on his right leg when he got a hole. That doll inspired Sammy the Teddy Bear and this story, which is about Gregory's teddy bear needing a tear in his leg fixed up by Doctor Mom.
BLURB: It’s Saturday, and Gregory Green can’t wait to have fun with his dad on the riding lawnmower, but something is wrong. Sammy, his teddy bear and best friend, won’t get out of bed. Gregory is worried when he sees Sammy’s left leg is torn. This is a case for Doctor Mom! Can they fix Sammy? And just how did Sammy get hurt in the first place?
