Featured Interview With Tess Hughes
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Ireland at the foot of a pilgrimage mountain called Croagh Patrick. I still live in the west of Ireland, in a city called Galway. I had a black labrador dog for fifteen years. He died of old age about a year ago. I love him and still miss him.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I'd say I was about five or six when I fell in love with books. They have been my greatest companions throughout my life.
I always liked to write but it is only recently that I wrote a book and had it published a couple of months ago.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have always liked classical literature and in recent years I have been drawn to classical spiritual literature. I enjoy reading books from every tradition, that is the perennial literature of the world. I like Arduous Huxley, Choygam Trungpa, Richard Rose, Douglas Harding, Various Christian and Indian writers.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
It's a spiritual biography. I came to the end of spiritual seeking, came to the end of fear and anxiety in my life in August 2010. Until about five years before this happened I didn't even know that such a thing was possible. But, it happened to me. The reason I wrote the book was to share this possibility with others.
It's called This Above All – A Journey of Self-Discovery.
I wrote it rather quickly as I was knew what I wanted to say before I even started it. The book is an honest description of how my life unfolded from turmoil and confusion to peace and contentment. It is an amazing transformation and I feel sure that it is what every one wants. The idea is that readers will get some ideas about how to facilitate this transformation in themselves.
