Featured Interview With M D Flyn
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in New Hampshire and I currently live in the Monadnock region. My herd of cats has dwindled down to just two.
I am a voracious reader, a writer, a chocolate inhaler, and LGBT. I perpetrate geekery, a lover of all things fantasy, scifi, and otherwise odd. I write speculative fiction that explores themes of individuality, belonging, and empowerment.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve been reading for as long as I can remember. I have vivid memories of hiding in the woods with my journal and book when I was very small.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors are Ray Bradbury, Gail Carriger, Neil Gaiman, Douglas Adams, Jane Austen, C J Archer, Patricia Briggs, and Beth Cato.
My favorite genre is speculative fiction.
I am inspired by lots of things. I have no problem with getting ideas, it’s having the discipline to sit down and write that is hard for me. Often something random will pop up when I am doing something that has nothing to do with writing that will give me a great idea.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Lasagna and Successes is a noir short story. A neglected housewife discovers a terrible secret about her husband. The story is about her choices and is intended to make you think about what you might do in the same situation. I actually wrote the story for an entrepreneurship class, which is pretty much the only reason I published it.
