Featured Interview With Demetra Yuvanu
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Demetra (Demi) Yuvanu is a Greek native that lives in South Carolina with her husband Ken.
She is a dance crazy, banana bread baking, furniture re-purposing, lover of all things creative, out-of-the-box-thinking grandmother to 2 water-loving boys.
Others often comment on her remarkable ability to extend acceptance, motivation, warmth and inspiration. Her quirky authenticity is infectious!
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My fascination with books started in my teens. My first books were in Greek, my native language. As I recall, I read a lot of Agatha Christi in Greek!
I learned English as a very young child in Athens, by attending schools for foreign languages. I started reading books in English in my 20s, always striving to improve my vocabulary.
My reading life continues in both languages nowadays, but mostly in English.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite genre is esoteric, transformative books that speak to my soul.
Here are some of the authors that have inspired me along the way: Louise Hay, Stuart Wilde, Eckart Tolle, Gary Zukav, Don Miguel Ruiz, Hermann Hesse, Michael A. Singer, Dan Millman, Shakti Gawain, Richard Bach and Wayne Dyer.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My children's book "Now I Know How!" is the physical manifestation of age-long principles that I have been applying all my adult life.
My intent was to impart these concepts as simply and clearly as I could, in order to empower kids early on! To give them a boost in creating a strong foundation, one they could depend on to overcome failures and transform their challenges into victories!
What if I could provide a road-map to solutions through story telling? What if I could interweave teaching without preaching? What if I could shed light on the principles of choice and focus along with how to be mindful?
What if I flung doors of possibilities wide open by helping kids succeed? What if?
The book wrote itself, supported by my intent to impart what I had learned and what had worked for me in moving through my life's twists and turns without giving up or withering!
I am not dyslexic but the book's illustrator Flo Barrington is. I met Flo in Greece on the inspiring island Agistri, while she was in the process of illustrating one of her books. I got moved by her life story, her challenges and her incredible talent!
What if I added one more layer to the inspiration by using a dyslexia-friendly font?
What if by making it easier for dyslexic kids to read the story, I was simultaneously providing them with tried and true tools they could apply to solve all their daily difficulties?
Forever grateful for the synchronicity and ease of the events along the way!
